Borobudur, or Barabudur

Borobudur, or Barabudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddist monument in Magelang, Central Jaya, Indinesia. The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupa.

I was amazed by the intricate design and the massive size of the monument. The temple was comprised of 2,672 panels and 504 Buddha statues. I could only imagine how much manpower it took to create such a shrine. Centuries ago, Barabudur was abandoned due to volcanic eruptions which covered the temple with layers of volcanic ash. Borobudur is considered the largest Buddhist temple in the world.Situated in the central Indonesian island of Java, surrounded by beautiful and cool volcanoes, Borobudur is a remarkable and beautiful structure.
What is most unusual about the temple is its structure which unfolds like a lotus flower. Erected on top of a hill, it has stepped up pyramidal structure of six storeys with three circular terraces and a central stupa. One storey has depiction of stories from Buddha’s life from Jataka ales, one essential teachings on the idea of the universe, and the journey of a human mind from a world covered with desire to ultimate liberation from the physical and worldly desire.

ISLAMIC MUSEUM TRIP: What did you find interesting and what did you learn INSIDE the Islamic Museum? Your sketches and statement should be about the same objects.

Proof (sketches) & lot more in the sketchbook( due to technically problem , i can only partially from my sketches of Islamic Museum. The rest can be reviewed in SKETCHBOOK~)

That is one room contains a large amount of carved sculpture brings a little bit elements of chinese sculpture dated back to Ching dynasty features with the corridors and the wall painting. I was amazed by the elements that might be feature  in china's art form.  The color in red , yellow and orange ( lots of warm color use) gave me a strong impression , that room might be served for religious or worshipping purposes.  Another thing that fascinated me is the top of the ceiling in the museum(dome), the complexity and flawless architecture sculture has make me speechless when i looked up. The manuscript as well.  the borders of every manuscript was my favorite, usually it applied with lots of curly patterns and plant things has made an interesting alignment and layout when reading which nowadays people might think it's overdecorating and has depicts present trends of designing a layout in clean and simple form. However, i think is eye-catching and it's pleasure to look at it. Handwritten and Illustrated pieces are priceless. And the paper ( might be animal skin, bamboo or bark was well combined with the layout ( borders, words and graphic).  I always wonder that how was the ancient people build them up or created a complicated object without any precise measurement and advance technology!  That's why so cool of the ancient people!

Last Friday, we went to Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia which located in Jalan Lembah Perdana near by KL Bird Park and National Mosque.

When I reached there, it was very quiet.
Few people inside the museum.
The admission fee is RM12 per adult.
With the student card, we get the discount from our admission fee which is RM5 per person.
After we put our bags inside the locker, we go up by lift.

The Hall of Museum
There are a big ceiling on the hall.
It create by the Islamic culture which is many Islam "Jawi" words on it.
There are many architectures:

The Architecture exhibited in Museum

Information Board
Besides that, there are many Qur'ans Manuscripts.

From this experience, I learn a lot.
The works which show in the museum record the history and the culture about the Islam.
They are so brilliant and worth remembering history.
I felt so proud cause our country still can restore so many antiques.
All of these can be show to our next young generation.
Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia offered me a constantly changing experience with only RM5.
It is deserve.

Matrix/Allegory of the Cave- Ooi Hui Xin 1005309

From “Alice in Wonderland” to Christianity, to Plato’s Allegory of the Cavethe “Matrix” takes the viewer through an intricate ride condensed with literary, religious, and philosophical symbolism. Its allusive wealth allows for the engagement of a wide range of viewers as well as for a gamut of interpretations. This variety of allusions and symbols are explicitly and subtly embedded in the movie’s plot and there is room for interpretations done from various theoretical perspectives. Viewed from this lens, one could see how the movie substantially draws on Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

Movie’s major character experiences a drastic change in his perception of reality as perceived by him and as it really is. Likewise, Plato's famous cave prisoner is able to comprehend the reality of the cave (where he has been living up to the pivotal walk which leads him out of it) and the real one outside of the cave.

T. Anderson lives in world which is controlled by the matrix agents just like Plato's prisoner lives in a world (cave) controlled by the form holders. They both manage to escape from the world as they know it and come to know the world as it really is: Anderson, with some help from Morpheus, comes to realize that the life he as been leading so far is nothing but the life of a slave, shaped under the control of the Matrix, protected by the agents. Plato's prisoner comes to realize first that the shadows he is looking at are not the truth, they are just shadows cast on the wall by the formholders. He sees the fire and as he follows the path which leads outside of the cave, he sees the sun and everything else illuminated by it. The respective characters, simultaneously experience shock and then a feeling of awe when they first perceive what is real. Neo (the name he assumes after the experience) is able to see how humans are "grown", hooked on wires, an element which symbolizes control just like the chains which tie the prisoners in Plato's cave.

Borobudur Temple - Magelang visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Borobudur Temple' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Java.

Borobudur (Barabudur) is a major, 9th century Buddhist temple complex near to Magelang in central Java in Indonesia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the top pilgrimage and tourist attraction in the region.

It is thought that Borobudur was founded around 800AD during the Sailendra dynasty in central Java. Construction is thought to have taken 75 years with Borobudur being completed during the reign of Samaratungga in 825.

At some point Borobudur was abandoned. It is known that between 928 and 1006, the center of power moved to East Java which led to the decline in importance of the site. In addition a series of volcanic eruptions may have contributed to the abandonment. The site was not completely forgotten but became associated with bad luck, in 1757 the death of Yogyakarta Sultanate was attributed to his visit to Borobudur the day before.

In 1814, Lieutenant Governor-General Thomas Stamford Raffles sent H.C. Cornelius and 200 men to excavate the monument, then buried under layers of ash and jungle. Further work was done by Hartmann in 1835 and it became a place for souvenir hunters. Finally, after much renovation funded by UNESCO in 1973, Borobudur once again saw active use as a Buddhist place of worship and quickly became the most visited tourist attraction in Indonesia.

Lift inside the Museum

Inside the lift

First before I went into the museum the first thing that draw my attention was the lift there. The design of the lift is so high-class. It provides me a pleasure and high intensity of experience.

Besides that the environment there is in a very good condition. I am so proud that Malaysia still conserve the treasure in the past very well.

I am interested in finding out how people lived in the past and imagining what it would be like to live like that.

I am always amazed by the skills that people had in past centuries, all the things they had to make for themselves, rather than everything ready made like us.
It was a good experience to me by learning in the Museum.

In the end I wish that we can still keep historical artifacts in a very good condition and ensure our next generation can have a look.

A lot more in the sketchbook. Here are just partially from my sketches of the objects. The rest can be reviewed in my sketchbook.

The media I used is acrylic and gesso. Why acrylic because I think acrylic media will brings out the drawing more vivid with color instead of just black and white. Beside, Gesso is allow to apply in acrylic. Gesso will enhanced the whole drawing more stands out and vivid. So personally think acrylic and gesso media will create a good piece drawing.

SKETCHES IN ART MUSEUM

What I have Learned ?

I never go art Museum before, this is the 1st time that i want there. When i step into the museum it gave me the feeling of "high class". There was some regret, we only paid for RM5 for the ticket, because the museum was being constructed so some part we cant have a look.
The 1st part I went was the architect building, there was many different type of mosque, the most attracted me was the China Mosque, built in Tang Dynasty,  because the others mosque have the similarity, which were the arced shape, but the China mosque was different from others so it's more attracted me.

The second thing that interested me was the ceiling of the Museum, when i looked up there, i feel the pure, holy, and future! Im impressed on the color of feeling and the decoration also interesting.

There are many 'rosewater sprinkled', 'tea candy' with craving, different with our new generation, because now a days the cup or pot that we use were not that meticulous.
